Want to write for us?
The content on beatenpaths comes from its readers. We'd love to hear about your travels, so if you fancy yourself as a Paul Theroux or a Bill Bryson, or you've just had a great holiday and want to write about it, send us your story.
A few guidelines:
- Aim for between 500 and 1,500 words. If this means focusing on one event or anecdote rather than the whole of your round-the-world trip, you can always send us more articles.
- We're looking for your experiences of a place, rather than a third-person guide. Having said that, try to make where you were, what you did or who you met the star of the story, not you.
- Try to include a bit of background information about the place - we like to educate our readers (without making them feel like they are back at school!)
- This isn't a review site, so don't spend too long describing the breakfast in your hotel. But if you stayed, ate or drank somewhere you liked, feel free to recommend it.
- We're not snobbish about "travelling" vs "holidays", and the least-discovered or furthest-flung places don't always make for the best stories, so as long as you have something entertaining to say about somewhere, we're interested.
- Any (relevant) photos would be great, and include links wherever possible.
- We'd also like to have your suggestions for films, books or music about or from the places you visit.
- Send your submissions as Word files (photos as jpegs) to editors[at]beatenpaths[dot]net, and don't forget to include a few words about yourself for us to include after your story.
You'll retain the copyright to your articles so can re-use them however you like, and we'd be happy to include brief biographies with links to and feeds from blogs/personal websites. We are also happy to consider previously published work, but please ensure that you have permission to publish it elsewhere.
Just like Athletic Bilbao's shirts, you won't see any sponsorship on this site, meaning that we can't afford to pay our contributors. In fact, if anyone fancies contributing towards the £5 per month that our server host is costing us...
